The NTC sensor can check out OK, but best to remove it and clean off any corrosion that may have formed if the car was ever run low on coolant....sure that NEVER happens. I believe that is what you are talking about, and it is located under the intake manifold...coolant temp sensor is for the fan switch, different animal.
Does the CEL come on? The problem with AMM guessing is unless you have a known good one its hard to check.
Rough idle can also be a faulty FPR, clogged fuel filter, or crappy gas.
