I removed and cleaned the water temp sensor last night. From my drive to work this morning, I'd say this improved the warm engine idling noticeably.
I'm hoping to make progress on checking/repairing the grounding points this evening and will follow up after this is complete. Several of the issues I've had with the car were due to weak electrical grounds - my wife found it very amusing (when I first bought the 900S) that applying the brakes lit up the dash light for the rear defroster.
My suspicion is that when a car get to be 15-20 years old, and hasn't been especially well-maintained, that some issues are a combination of small factors. I'm trying to pay attention to the basics before diving too heavily into replacing expensive parts. So far, so good and the "fixed" list is now bigger than the "broken" list.
Thanks for the advise. More later.
