that's messed up, ive dropped off a head full of oil reminisce along with used cork gasket stuck to it. when i got it back it was as if the head came off the shelf new.
quite hard to see a crack in a head and if someone was just standing at the counter looking at it, they would need to be examining it for a good while, not just at a glance.
inspect the head at the point between piston chambers, the part of the alloy that is the thinnest. looking for a line that runs from one chamber to the other. the line would be no thicker than a strain of hair.
than flip it over an inspect the valve holes, looking for the same line running out of a valve hole.
last but not lest look at the exhaust outlets, for this line running between holes, from one to the other.
if you find one here the head can still be used, i dont for-see any problem that would arise with a cracked exhaust outlet.
for the crack being no bigger than a strain of hair i think it would be next to impossible to spot having it sitting on a counter. but people have amazed me.
if someone told me that id shove the head in his face and say where???
cracking an alloy head is quite a task, i would feel proud of myself for achieving such a thing.
