We've had the A/C recharged maybe 2x + did a repair as well. Neither was very expensive, a few hundred $. Not a Saab problem - any 16 year old car will be like that. Older Saabs (I think older than 1990?) used a different refrigerant that is now banned, so AC repair in them is expensive ($1000 upgrade). For that reason, my parents' 1989 doesn't have AC anymore. FWIW, Saab was one of the first manufacturers to adopt the new refrigerant.
WRT radio, I bought a new in the box old stock Saab 900 radio off ebay for $30 a few years back... radios are cheap.
Don't get me wrong, I love our classic! Lots of unique well designed stuff in them! If you want that curved windshield + clamshell hood that opens "the right way" you need to look at a classic. They were expensive to build, and nobody would build a car like that today... BUT, I'd have more trouble advising someone new to Saabs and not mechanically inclined to get into them now without trying a bunch of newer models first. In spite of GM involvement, newer Saabs are still quite unique, practical, safe, + fun to drive, and with the future uncertain, they are cheap to buy + offer a great value. Worth trying even if only to clarify to yourself why you want a c900...
