we're on the same page re. "stored energy" in bushings Posted by DET17 [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Silicone, bushing rubber quality...., Landjet ![]() ![]() |
Having been trained as an Engineer, I think in terms of "strain". Ideally those rubber bushings should have no strain (deflection/ rotationally) when the beast is sitting at ride height.....this confirms the available suspension rotation in either direction will not OVER strain the rubber, taking it out of the elastic range into deformation.
For your race car, how did you get the front springs out? A little heat relief and then removed/replaced with stiff/short springs for the track?
I've got a pair of strut compressors on my front left right now. Due to the space & design, I can only capture 4 live coils. I've nearly got those 4 solid and the bottom of the UCA where I have my steel blocks installed (to contain energy for spindle removal) are still tight. Tonight I'll try and raise it a bit with my floor jack and see if I can get the pressure off the steel blocks to remove them. If not, I'm at a dead end regarding removing these springs to R&R those front UCA pillow block rubber bushings.......I might snap a pic tonight and insert into this thread, if I can figure out how to link my Photobucket account.
