What you discribe is fairly normal. The 9000 tranny has direct drive in 4th and quasi direct drive in 3rd, so it is somewhat like shifting between 2 direct gears without the torsional and speed change dampening effects of the torque converter. The 4-3 down shift is in essence a shift between 2 direct gears and when done slowly results in a bump as the engine is driven to a higher rpm by 3rd gear. If you drive right at or very slowly approach the 3-4 shift the tranny can hesitate and/or grab 4th. A lot of this low throttle shifting results from trying to make soft and acceptable shifts between two direct drive gears. You may also notice the shift into 3rd can seem occur in 2 phases under moderate trottle, Basically there is a range change and then the grabing of a torque converter element in sequence.
