but jerky downshifts aren't (in my view) normal or sporty. I can understand a shift being jerky if you're doing something agressive, like hard acceleration, but not on a downshift when you're off the throttle. If you are unhappy with your shifting, I think you need to investigate further. Generally, smooth is good, in driving or mechanical terms!
Having said that, changing the fluid was a good start, and there are plenty of adjustments a specialist can do without removing the transmission.
I don't do my own maintenance, mostly because I don't have time and I'm old and smelly anyway. But the things you mention are all pretty easy (tho' changing *all* the auto transmission fluid is less so.
9000K CSE 2.3 turbo, auto tranny, with JT exhaust.
