ok...my opinion exactly. today i went and looked this car over very closely. '88 9000S auto. with 74k orig. miles. the body is flawless. no rust at all, perfect orig. paint. interior is near perfect. the only flaw is the cloth liner on the sun roof and the glove box door hinges are broken. as for the mechanical end, I drove it several miles. everything seems normal. ACC checks ok, engine sounds smooth and responsive with no idle fluctuation. the trans. shifts smoothly through all 4 gears and the steering and susp. feels tight-as-a-drum. only concerns are: 1-it has the ABS system and there's a problem. the pedal goes to floor but the car still brakes. and I too hate auto trans-fitted SAABs. Here's my idea. since I currently own an '87 9000S 5spd with 250k miles, perfect drivetrain but rust-infected quarters, how difficult would it be to transfer my 5spd. to the new 9000. and to eliminate the ABS system for conventional braking.
