Is that $8000 US or Cdn ? If US than it sounds like not a bad deal, if Cdn it's a terrific deal (assuming everything is as functional as you know is).

9Ks are great cars and no one can guarantee if parts that work now will stay that way for the next 10,000 miles or 50,000 miles. But they are finicky and have lots of high-techy parts (ie: $$), mind you. If you can allow Cdn$1000-1500 of maintenance coins every year you should be fine, as long as you keep a close eye on things and be *proactive* about maintenance instead of letting things malfunction. Ex: I just did my timing chain and balance chain job for around Cdn$2000 (incl labor) proactively instead of letting it rattle more and possibly fail and risk having to repair the motor for 2-3 times that price.

Not to commit 9000 blashemy here (have mercy, guys ...) but have you considered the classic Saab 900 ('80-'93) and the new generation 900 ('94-'98) ? In terms of safety, performance and versatility (and snaab appeal) they are 90% as good as 9000s but admittedly are "simpler" cars in my mind and likely slightly cheaper to maintain on average.

Also, find well-reputed independent Saab shops and stay with them, I don't personally recommend Saab dealers ... period. But eastern Canada and US seem to have Saabs everywhere so I guess maintenance costs are probably more competitive than out here on the west coast.

So whichever Saab (9000, 900) you decide on I'm sure you'll have tons of enjoyment with it. Good luck.
