The lights on the 'little car' are not particularly detailed, at least on my '93.
If either of the headlights is out, then both warning lights come on.
Similarly with the doors - the rear hatch warning always shows together with any warning for a passenger door.
I sometimes get the headlamp warning when I start the car - a gentle thump on the glass of the offending lamp usually puts it on.
The outside temperature reading does not seem very accurate at the upper end of the range - mine showed 38C when it was 'only' about 33C recently (and that's hot, by local Swedish standards!).
I can see the logic in putting the sensor near the road - knowing that you are driving on a freezing surface is more important than just knowing that it's b**** hot out there!
