I tend to live by the old adage "no pain, no gain." Which is not to say that I have consistently dodged "all pain and no gain" (i.e. my 1988 8v 900). However, I have not been lucky enough to experience "all gain and no pain". Well, since college anyway - and, to be fair, some of those memories are a little fuzzy.

But, the bottom line is that Saab 9000's are a trade off. You happen to be on the 9000 board, so I would expect the unanimous vote here (depending on whether Andrew sees this thread) to be in favor of the inherent compromise. A late model CSE or Aero goes fast, feels great and is easily made faster still. And you can put a LOT of stuff in the back. Last night I brought home a new air compressor from Sears in my 93 9000 that my buddies insisted would require a pickup truck. And they go fast. Did I mention that?

A similar model year Acura or Lexus is likley to aggravate you less, though it is also likely to cost more (note the correlation). If that's what you want. Because it will fulfill you less if you care at all about the experience of driving.

Look carefully at the board and you will see that most posts refer to minor failures that are within the competence of the average weekend warrior. Furthermore, the help available here vastly reduces the cost of ownership of a 9000. Major failures reported on the board are rare in the context of the volume of posts. The circumstance in which a 9000 can be murder is if you are paying the dealer to fix every little thing. If that's the case, I would either get a second job or a Toyota.
