I am saying to run slightly below the max tire pressure, stamped into the side of the tire.
If you are running the type/size/brand of tire that came on the car, then by all means, run what's on the door. If you vary from that, what documentation do you use? If I had an "H" rated tire come on my car new, and I'm now running a Z rated, should I still run the tire at 40% less than what is stamped on the outside of the tire? That's asking for trouble. If you go to Tirerack, and look at some tires, same size, the max pressure will vary up to 25 psi.
On the same note, what if my car says run the tires at 35 psi, but the tire I have on the car have a max inflation of 35 psi? What do I do? Who do I offend, the car maker or the tire maker? I'll guarantee you that hauling my 2 young children around, I'm going go go by what is stamped in the side of the tire, reduce that by 4-5psi and run that.
Are you still standing by your advice to run a tire 40% below the max?
