All U.S. '92 Turbos Have TCS, Lack Trionic...

As for better-handling, the '92 turbos were set up stiffer, sort of akin to the Aeros. I don't think the '92 turbos handle BETTER than the Aeros, but that's quite a subjective area.

Trionic became the way for SAAB in '93. More integration of components. TCS in '93 isn't much better -- best just to avoid TCS altogether, as it involves a few expensive parts that can fail and that aren't found on non-TCS cars, such as the electronic throttle body, which is a $700+ part alone.

Many who run '92 turbos opt to add the TCS on-off switch, which simply enables them to climb icy/snowy hills with better affect. That requires upgrading their cars' ECU to a '93 unit.

So, while I'm running a '93 Aero with the dreaded TCS, and while it's been fine for me so far (143K miles on the car), I really think you're better off to eliminate costly problems by finding that magical non-TCS car. You could find non-TCS turbos starting in '94, although TCS was still available on turbo cars through '95 or '96.
