Hope the control arm bushing replacement
goes well. You must live in corrosion land too.
I've been pretty lucky about that. No seized bolts on
my shocks and didn't have the plate sticking probs on
the bushings that seem so common. They don't give you a lot
of room on those bolts though, do they?
I try to get my underside washed after heavy salt
days here in Illinois. I also give a good coating to my
replcement bolts for these types of things with
PB blaster which has a magnetic component to it -
hoping that next time I'll still get pretty smooth
removal of the bolts. Haven't had to do things a second time,
but I also haven't had squeaking noise complaints that
some experience after bushing replacements.
Note that you will probably need to consider the
alignment when you are done, but there is a good
thread on "DIY alignment" that worked well for me.
However, we talked earlier about your pull to the right
(mine was to the left). These bushings fixed mine, due to
camber being out of spec. If you still have that pull
after the bushing replacement and all other suspension
components are 100%, then camber can be the issue.
It is not adjustable on these cars. If that's an issue, then
if it is only out by about 1 degree then this can be
fixed with camber kits, I can point you in the right
direction if needed. If it is more than 1.5 degrees
it is much more problematic and the only solution I have
come across is a visit to a frame shop. FYI - I was out
2 degrees and the control arm bushing got me back in spec.
BTW - how's the steering? Was your U joint loose?
Or has that ghost in the machine been exorcised?
Good luck, Buck
