Timing wouldn't be on the spark. The CPS reads the crank position, which is directly tied to the position of the pistons. A chain problem could cause the valve timing to go off. This would cause insufficient compression during the spark, etc. Not highly likely, but I threw it out there anyway.
For fuel pressure, connect the gauge to the fuel-injection rail pressure inlet. The manual recommends suspending the gauge vertically to avoid incorrect readings. Apply power to the fuel pump (don't crank the engine). For a non-turbo 2.3 engine, you should read 3.0 bar.
