WHAT?....180k is 'high' mileage !?....argh. (long) Posted by vtsnaab [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Where are you located Todd?, Todd98CSE, Wed, 1 Oct 2008 21:04:14 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
What is this brainwashed nonsense with 180 or 200k being so dire ?
A 9K is NOT a '71 Fiat or Datsun or Toyota when (as was discussed very
recently when I asked about it here) it was considered normal for the
engines to be dying from top-end fatigue around 80k miles - not even a
close runner up - no relation at all !!!
Just how many times have you heard of a 9K engine quitting totally
dead at ALL ?
I think I've heard of maybe 3 in the last decade and I've been paying
close attention - it just doesn't happen UNLESS some bobo drives
one with no fluids or the like, or the car has been previously trashed
by some hot rodder kid - but a '98 ?
Holy Krap - my NEXT car is a '94, and my daily driver is a '91 with
244k+ and strong as they come. After that I'll look for a.....'98 !
(Oh yeah - and it HAD a tranny whine, but I added some Kroil to it, as
I posted in your last thread about this rig I think, and it's gone now.)
Now it has been said in this thread that one must love their car, and
that work must be done judiciously - and if you are no longer willing
to expend effort on this car, then post it on the classifieds here and
it'll get snapped up by someone who thinks a '98 is just about a new
car !!!
Saab ownership and driving does not relate with Japanese car stuff.
As others have said, but I wish to refine it:
I expect about $1000/year in car stuff - and some years I 'get away'
with a mere $400; others $1300 - and so, what of it ? I'm good with it.
For my money I have the most intelligent, ergonomic car that was ever
made (I've found none better - Volvos are nice but not AS nice.) and
it fits me like a nice, soft glove.
AND of some importance:
I drive roads where there are moose and deer regularly and bears now
and again - and a Swedish car is designed to take a moose and for the
wetware inside to survive in pretty good shape.
My HTG gorgeous '94 Aero saw me through a 2-moose encounter and I lost
the car, BUT I am here to tell you about it !
Will a Japanese car do THAT ? I think not.
About a ton of moose vs. a Lexus ? Pfffft. No contest.
OK - one last word for real:
Trannies.
In the 9K a tranny is a consumable, that's just a fact and I believe
it has been said before more than a few times here - it ain't 'whether';
it ~IS~ 'when'.
Best Wishes - good luck with your new car, and post here when the (grin)
'beater' is listed in our classifieds, please, I'd like to read your ad !
