Yes indeed, It does work. I formed a tube of steel sheet metal about the diameter of the bushing and perhaps 3/8" longer. I lubricated the id with grease. Then I installed a worm drive clamp close to the insertion end and tightened it as small as I could. I used an assortment of washers, nuts, a large socket, and 3/8 threaded rod to pull the bushing through the ASB end. It took some learning.
