Hello everyone,
I recently did a lot of work on my 88 9kt, and after a long time of not running it came back to life, but the ABS light and Brake fluid lights were on.
Brake pedal was stiff and the car hard to stop
I read everything i could about it on this board, on quasimotors site, and on the townsend site, and saved all the information to my computer for reference.
On it's own, the brake fluid light would go out, i tested the pump by pulling the relay and shorting pins 30 and 87 and the pump ran, sounded weak but it ran.
Braking feel improved on it's own at this point, without much effort from me.
I put in a 1990 ABS module, and was going to wire pin 26 to a switch for pulling ABS codes, but before that...
I managed to trace the problem to 2 bad diodes, one shorted the other stuck open.
after one car restart with the new diodes, the abs light was still on, so i unplugged the abs computer to maybe clear the codes and re-plugged it in again...
on the second try after the diodes the ABS light turned on at first key click, then went out on it's own... and finally stayed off when the engine was started!
Finally, some progress!
I did the accumulator pumping test, and after only FOUR pumps, consistently, both the antilock and brake fluid lights would come back on...
BAD ACCUMULATOR, i know
I'm going to replace it soon, anything used one from a newer car should have better results than mine, however...
after letting the engine run for a while, turning it on and off to check a few things, the brake fluid light comes on BY ITSELF now...
Fluid is at the MAX level line in the reservoir... and when i pump the brakes to test the accumulator the ABS light will come back on again, then go out in a second when the pump runs, but the brake fluid light is staying on.
NOW WHAT is going on?
the brake fluid level switch?
Why would it just start now?
any ideas? sorry for the long post
