Just keep pumping until you're sure the pressure is gone. Hold the pump body securely with a pipe wrench or big open end, and put the vise grip chain wrench or whatever on the accumulator and work one against the other CCW till it's loose. To be safe, you could drape something over it as you unscrew it by hand. Put in the new one and you're good to go. The one in my 88 and my spare are good for 8-12 pumps so I haven't put in a new one. I haven't successfully removed a switch because they're aluminum and seize and crush easily.
