The analysis that I would be interested in is, is it better economically to buy new if you keep the car for a long enough time, and if so, how long is long enough.
In other words, given a choice between buying new or buying a used car that is X years old, is there some number of years Y where it would be more economical to buy new if you were to keep the car for Y years and longer, and if so, what would be the minimum such Y (which would presumably be some function of X).
