I'll never forget the feeling when I lost my '70 Firebird Formula to a small fire. It started out very small in the back of the dash where I couldn't smother it and slowly devoured the whole car while I watched. If I had an extinguisher it would have been a non issue and I would have lost a headlight switch at the worst. I was 17 at the time (it was a couple of days before my 18th birthday and unknown to me at the time I was going to a surprise party) and the Firebird was my first car. To make matters worse, a highway patrol officer who happened to be driving by didn't have a working extinguisher and the very nearby fire department took a very long time to respond (especially in my mind.) It was a total loss and I didn't have comprehensive insurance. Now I ALWAYS carry a extinguisher in the car, both for myself and for anyone I see in a similarly awful situation. It's a no-brainer really, so buy one now, they're cheap and can be incredibly important.
