>> ...removing the ACC control unit and reach down to the radio instead. The hard part is of course to remove the ACC unit without scratching up the black surround and the wood trim. Someone must make a tool somewhere to do this kind of jobs, anyone knows ?

Okay, I figured this out:

(1) Remove the small horizontal plastic piece below the two seat-heater switches. It is easy with a small screwdriver, but be careful.

(2) Remove the blank on the bottom right of the quadrant (below left SH switch). You could try to skip step 2, but Step 3 is much harder without
this access. The blank is easy to remove.

(3) Pushing from behind with your finger inserted where the blank was, push the right SH switch out.

(4) From there, you can insert your finger and push the left side of the ACC computer out enough to get a grip on it, at which point it is fairly easy to remove. No need to remove the cabling, but just let it hang out of the way.

With that out of the way, the rear of the receiver is right there. I pushed around where the wires were connected and have no noise at the moment. I wonder how long it will last. Boy, those wires are really crammed into that console/dash area! This sounds like a complex chore, but it is simple, taking me about five minutes.

>> If you are serious about attaching a string to the batch of cables/wires, you can do that from there and let it hang down to the ashtray outlet and let the string hide in the ashtray. Each time when the buzz comes back, open the ash tray and pull :-).

Well, I can't do that 'cause I put a bunch of gauges in where the ashtray and cubby hole were. But I could hang the string down where it sticks out under my right thigh at the bottom of the console. If the fix above doesn't last long, I may try this. As easy as it was to get to the back of the receiver, there is still a chance of scratching something taking those little thingies out of the dash.
