>>>3. Saab covers their ass by recommending oil change intervals of 8000 mi. Anyone foolish enough to try extended drain intervals with syn oil is going to have to pay out of their own pocket for out of the ordinary engine and valve train wear. Check the posting on this BB by a mechanic who noticed a pattern of abnormal wear on engines at 100K mi. using syn oil.
It's nice to see that Saab, along with a number of other manufacturers, is finally agreeing with those of us who have been using synthetic for 25 years or more.
I've consistently extended the drain interval in my cars (AMSOIL at 25,000 non-turbo, 10,000 turbo), mostly Saabs, for over 24 years now. Oil analysis has never shown any abnormal engine wear, and having looked inside of some engines which broke (not oil related), I have never noticed any evident wear. Engine mileage has ranged from 100-200,000.
