Although I can't say for certain, I have been told and have read that Saab provided/recommended dino oil for all cars up until 2001.
Even if correct, your point is irrelevant. For model years prior to '01, Saab provided a 1000 mile service, which includes a free oil change. All dealers (unless the owner specifically requested) installed dino oil at this interval, so the mileage that the car had on the factory oil is almost insignificant. It was not until '01 that Saab began to require the 5W-30 semi-synthetic as a minimum standard.
Why would Saab USA recommend a change to dino oil at 1000 miles if the car came with full synthetic? Usually it goes the other way -- dino is (arguably) better for break-in than synthetic.
