Changes are good you did some damage to the bearings. The big question is 'how much?'. Short of doing a teardown, the best you can do is wait.
First off, I'd do an oil change right away. You want to flush out as much debris as possible. Next, listen to the car at startup. Don't worry about the usual valve clatter. What you'll be listening for is the thump of rod knock. If the engine is unusually noisy at startup and then quiets down, that's not a good sign. It may take a few days for the noise to show up. If you do hear a nasty knock at startup, chances are you've had some significant engine damage. However, if you go a few days and the engine isn't any noisier than usual, you might have gotten away with it. All I can say is Good Luck! on that.
Frankly, a line splice isn't a bad solution. Find three inches or so of metal tubing that will *just* fit into the inside of the hose. Slide it into each of the pieces of hose with a few clamps, and you should be OK. Alternatively, go to the autoparts store and see if you can find some fittings that will fit into the hose, and build yourself a little coupler, and clamp it in place. If you use the tubing solution, if the tubing looks like it could bend or kink, add a splint on the outside. You wouldn't want the weight of the hose to kink the tube.
Good luck!
