John, When You say "nice cars", I'm guessing your into the American classics. That's my background. I'm into just about any make car, but always lean towards the American ones. I stumbled into Saabs a few years back, by buying a pretty rare '72 99 Saab Special Edition. It was a real clean car, but had a blown motor. I converted it from an automatic and upgraded it to a B block. I realized these 99's were a lot nicer than the 95's and 96's once I started doing it over. I'm not putting those cars down, I think they are both nice cars, as well as the sonnets, but the 99 is so much more advanced for it's time.Even today, it is truly modern. I finished that one up as a restoration with a few mods includind headers. The car also had AC, so I kept that and converted it to R34. I also picked up a clean '74 EMS that I just finished up. I kept that mostly stock as well. I managed to find a NOS Ansa exhaust system for that.I also put sway bars in the EMS. Both of mine are pictured on Karls' 99 Tips Pages. Karl has been doing a fantastic job of promoting an ignored classic. My ford and Chevy friends would laugh at my Beetles or Datsuns. They all admire my 99's however. I feel that the 99 will soon start to get the recognition it deserves. With the increased popularity of the new generation of Saabs, people are starting to look back to the 99. I get a lot of new Saab owners asking me to sell mine. One benefit of having an active 99 club, would be self-promotion which would produce higher resale values.A large 99 showing at the yearly Saab car Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline Mass, would make a big impression for instance. With a few organized cruise events, and some group participation at car shows, we could easily put the 99 where it should be known as...the best vintage Saab.
