Oil Pan Removal Advice needed. Posted by iveand [Email] ![]() ![]() |
Last year I cleaned out a fairly "gummy" valve cover. I ran auto-rx treatment through last year, and then converted over to fully synthetic oil. It seems previous owner only did "recommended" oil change intervals (9K - 10K) w/ dino oil. Precipitating me looking into things was a oil pressure sensor renewal which then showed flickering light when engine got warm ... I was guessing the screen was partially plugged with junk.
I also removed the oil pressure switch / relief valve and found fairly significant scoring, but cleaned it up and put it back in.
Recently I have noticed the flickering oil pressure light again when warmed up. In fact, sometimes when at very low idle (engine partially under lug to drop rpm's slightly - 900 rpm, for instance), then the light virtually stays on consistently.
I feel I need to remove the oil pan to clean the pickup screen. I have haynes and it indicates removing the subframe, etc. but is it easier than that? Can I remove part and "swing it out of the way"? Any advice would be appreciated. Also, do I have to tear the exhaust apart?
