This morning I got a "check coolant level" signal, so I did. The expansion tank has a black oily mess inside. I'm guessing it's been there for a while, since I changed the engine oil recently, and it's still clean and clear -- no froth. The engine runs fine, BTW.
Q: Is this definitely a blown head gasket, or could it be a leak in the oil cooler ? How can I tell ?
Q: If the leak is at the head, is the gasket definitely bad, or might a re-torquing fix this ?
Q: I'm not gonna just keep driving the car in this state, but am I risking serious damage if I drive it for a few more days (while keeping a close eye on engine oil) ?
