... these symptoms EXACTLY describe the troubles that Richard and I had been struggling with for the past few months. BOTH of us are now running great, and in BOTH cases, it was the crank sensor (or at least something that co-incided with replacement of such). We both did swap out the main relay under the knee bolster, as well, but the crank sensor replacement is what got us running again. I cannot fully account for why this is, but, as I said, from your description, the symptoms match exactly.
It seems your mechanic could have checked the fuel pump better before replacement. Very easy to do with a scope and some fuse "hotwiring". Please read previous threads about these cold start issues that Richard and I posted , with great input and advice given by Dean, Anders, and others.
