Good to know, thanks. I don't have a copy of the WIS.
The sensor is a simple single turn potentiometer, like you can buy from electrical parts suppliers for less than $5. It is inside a sealed plastic box with a connector and Bosch name on it. The resistance can be checked at the terminals by rotating the throttle by hand, and comparing to the values listed in the Haynes manual. The shafts are connected directly, so from closed to wide open is a quarter turn on the pot. I don't see how it can fail or wear out. Nothing to calibrate on the sensor, simple mechanical device.
The ecu might have to be calibrated to the sensor if the pot is cheap and not very accurate, especially if the source voltage applied to the terminals is not accurate to start with. In other words, the ecu may have to store the voltage at closed and wide open throttle, and interpolate between the two to get the position.
