I know they can read OBD2 codes for free. For Saabs I think that is 1996 and onwards. Not sure about the date for the OBD2. Anyway, it is worth the visit there.
There is a manual called the Haynes Manual. You need to purchase the European version as there is no American version of this book. Same car, just the pictures show a RHD car. Anyway, the book is useful, although is not as comprehensive as the classic Bentley book series. From what I hear, it pails in comparison.
