Anyone who is SERIOUS about monitoring their boost performance will buy a calibrated boost gauge (usually around $50). To rely on the stock boost gauge where the "red zone" has almost no meaning, is flying blind.
I almost forgot that the stock fuel cutout is set at only 15 psi. With an aftermarket ECU upgrade it's much higher (around 21 psi). I guess that's another reason to buy the proper upgrade...
If you're not experiencing "boost creep" then you must have it dialed back pretty far from fuel cutout. We all can feel the difference that a cold winter's day makes with a turbo. And yes, we've heard from several people here and I've seen it on rice boy forums where they are constantly fiddling with the "bleeder valve"... (and they probably have no concept of what in the heck they're doing)
I will quote one thing you said: "The MBC's have proven to be a safe mod for a vehicle that is well maintained."
Well, where's the proof? Does the manufacturer of that $30 device give any warranty protection if you damage your engine? Will Saab approve of it? Hardly. It's strictly a DIY hack for those who want to screw around with cheap performance... on an expensive car.
Any finally, did you know that upgrading via Nordic (and possibly Abbott, but I'm not certain) will NOT void your warranty!? Yup, they have a gentleman's agreement with Saab because Saab realizes that they've got a good and tested product.
but hey, if you want to save a couple hundred bucks or "it's only a lease car" then knock yourselves out.
