the four and the six are out in production right now and they are smooth. I rode in a 2001 Saturn L series sedan with the new 4cyl. and I rode in a 2002 GMC Envoy with the new 275hp 6cyl. and both engines were really smooth and they weren't coarse sounding. The six really sounded sweet and was unbelievably smooth. At one time, GM was known for it's in-line 6cyl engines way before BMW was. GM does make great trucks and SUVs, but I think they make pretty decent cars...not the best cars, but definitely not the worst cars. IE, I like the new Cadillac DTS and CTS, I like the Oldsmobile Intrigue and Alero, I even like a few of the Pontiacs....and I definitely like SAAB. It seems as if you have already written the new 9-3 off and bought a BMW before even seeing what will be produced. Who knows, the new 9-3 may come out and change your mind about SAAB/GM...but I doubt it. It looks like you've already made up your mind...sight unseen.
