... and I think you hit the nail on the head. My year-old Passat V6 GLX is refined and smooth. It performs very well, in a subdued sort of way. Power comes on smoothly and cornering is predictable. My 3-year-old 9-3 SE rides a little harsher and there is more road noise. But the turbo kick makes it feel sportier, the seats are more comfortable and it is more stable at speed, especially in bad weather. The build quality of the Passat -- and its resale value -- are higher. But the fun factor of the Saab is off the scale. It's the one my wife and I both prefer to drive. I previously owned a '92 Saab 9000 and a '91 Jetta, and while each lasted a decade with no major repairs, the Saab was the one we held a going-away party for.
