TG-
I guess my ramble-on thinking was that, yes, this is the stuff that Saab provides for us US owners, but it's not the same as what they provide for their European buyers. Why not? If you don't have the pressure to produce the fuel economy numbers that a lighter-weight oil provides, & it's truely an as-good-or-better product, why not simplify your warehouse stock (& associated material costs) & carry only the 5W-30 semi-syn? Y'know, just like they did with the larger-to-smaller oil filters when the larger ones wouldn't fit into the new engine designs? If I plan on keeping the car for 10, 15, 20 years, is "good enough" good enough, when it's NOT good enough for Saab's local clientele?
The 5W-30 semi's not the only oil to validate the warranty, & labor's not enough of a reason to spend the time taking it to the dealer & waiting around. I WILL go 10k mi between changes. I agree that there are other, better oils & filters available, so I'm wondering if "free" + "good enough" = "long-term value," or if it equals "short-term cheapskate"?
