You raise some good points. I should have included more info in the posting, but I thought it was getting long.
re: how do you know tat the engine was not overheated?
I've had the car since mid April and this coolant leak began around Oct. 13th. While it's certainly possible that the car was overheated prior to my owning it, I guessing that even if it was, the head gasket was not damaged. I checked and had the car checked thoroughly prior to purchasing it after driving it for a week (bought from a friend who owns a car lot) and there were no leaks.
re:Why does the headgasket need to be replaced?
As you gather from above, it's due to a coolant leak. They pressurized the system and let it sit over night. Dealership says head gasket. If they pay for it, I won't bother with a second opinion.
I have no choice but to hang in and hope for the best. I have been loving my Saab. Unfortunately, I'm not going to let this one go. If it were only oil, maybe, but even then, but with it being coolant I'd rather not take chances.
Thanks for your input.
