Doug, take a deep breath and relax, your taking this personally.
I won't bother looking at the link because I have their 31 page catalog that arrrived at my house 2 weeks ago. I bought one of their dual stage foam air filters last summer and I'm impressed with it.
I still wonder how the oil additives hold up after stretching from a 3K or 5K drain period to a 10K or even 15K period. The filter is taking out the harmful metal wear and other stuff, but it doesn't remove carbon blow by and other gas related deposits from the oil. As the oil ages (in mileage terms) the additives become less and less effective at doing what their designed to do.

I noticed that all the Amsoil testing is done with new clean oil and there's nothing in the literature relating it to engines. While it's tough for anyone to have a baseline with the testing I'm referring to it would give us a better understanding on the additives over time. Since everyones engine is "different" (based on manufacturing tolerances, driving style, environment and fuel grade and brand used) it's hard to say exactly how many "pollutants" are added to the oil so lengthing a drain period doesn't really give me the warm and fuzzy. Yes, filtration is key and so is good oil, but that's only part of the picture.
I'm going out on a limb and saying that we all love our Saabs and if a particular oil gives someone a warm and fuzzy over another, that's great, use it, but I am not too fond of the extended drain period mentioned. As for the test data in the Amsoil book I just received, the tests are dated 1999 and 2000. Have the formulations on Mobil 1 and other brands remained the same or have they changed, I don't know. If they changed then these tests are outdated. Don't get me wrong, I think Amsoil is a good product, but not at 2X the price. Based on how dirty my oil gets in a 5K drain cycle I wouldn't think of extending it.
The test I would like to see is 2 engines of the same make, one with Amsoil, the other with Mobil 1. Run the engines for 250 hours and then do a tear down and measure the wear in the actual engine and send the oil out for analysis. Then do the same again, but this time change the Mobil 1 at 250 hours miles and let the Amsoil run for 500 hours with just an oil change. Again, perform a tear down and compare wear and again send the oil out for analysis. This would be a far better comparison as related to the harsh conditions inside and engine, not a ball bearing in a lab.
Don't even get me started on the infomercial for Dura-Lube.....
Happy Saabing
