i believe that the problem with the vent drum binding/knobs breaking was first tried to be fixed with relubing the drum with a different lubricant that would work for a variable amount of time and then would rebind neccesitating replacement of the heater box for a permanent repair. this replacement has been done to some of the members cars on this board and i assume this is what you want saab to provide to you. i think that now the "fix" involves altering the drum to provide additional clearance as well as relubing etc. i had this new fix done approximately one year previously and it seems to be working just fine. so it might not be n unreasonable solution to the problem if it has not been done before and failed. i mssed your history of previous repairs/warranty status etc as a basis for a free repair but unless there has been a safety recall an out of warranty freebie repair is not obligated.
