You have the single flow intercooler. You can check this out by seeing which side the turbo ourput hose connect to the intercooler. If it goes straight to the passenger side of the car to intercooler, it is the single pass flow intercooler. The silencer is only an issue if the turbo output goes underneath to the driver side of the intercooler.That would be a double pass intercooler which would mean the silencer would be there. My understanding(while not looking at it)all SE's from '00 on have the HOT engine with the single pass intercooler, thus no silencer to remove. Eiron pointed out that it may have been because without the duct, you were pulling hot air in instead of cold.
If you're like the rest of us, you like to tinker. With you car, this might not be the area you need to tinker with. I think these are two areas that are already improved from previous years.
