Re: Engine Locked Up?????? Posted by SWEDECAR [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Engine Locked Up??????, Frank ![]() |
The drawback of starting to tear the engine apart to look for the cause is that your money is ticking away for every hour that the shop is working on the car.
When several hours have gone and they realize that the engine is completly toast, those hours (money) could have been spent toward pulling the whole engine instead.
Ones again, we don't know the whole scope.
If they lift off the valve cover and see that it is no residual oil up there and that maybe one or both camshafts are seized. It is a good guees to say that probably the main and rod bearing have taken a beating too from that loss of oil, and most likely the turbo bearing too.
Imaging, if they would to fix up the engine with just a new/used cylinder head and then a week later the bottom seize up due to marginal scoring in the bearings, that would disturb the oil film needed to lubricate.
It is really a tough call both for you and the shop, if it is a lack of lubrication scenario we are looking at.
Good luck
Anders
