Re: Engine Locked Up?????? Posted by Frank [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Re: Engine Locked Up??????, SWEDECAR ![]() ![]() |
After doing a little more legwork on my own, I talked to a retired saab mechanic here in Beaufort SC and just like you mentioned he can only speculate on the problem. He did suggest that as you and others suggested that a journal was starved lubrication and that the cam shaft eventually seized...which in his exerience would indeed totally lock the engine. The issue with the apparent turbo whine was in reality the camshaft. That said he was unsure if the timing was on a chain, but said if it was you could remove it you would have a way to determine if it was locked on the upper or lower half of the engine. He also suggested by taking off the valve cover you might be able to see what was happening. If it was the camshaft he said it might be worth replacing it vs. the engine. But I would have to find someone in the area that really new the car and charged a reasonable rate. FYI he also suggested that if the engine needs replacement E Automotive in Jacksonville, FL is a great resource.
That said, does this make sense from a cost standpoint to determine if it is the camshaft or should I replace the engine? Can suggest a good mecahnic in the Hilton Head, Beaufort, Savannah area.
Thank you all for your comments!!!!
