<---QUOTE: "Later I found out that Tires Plus (I think they are a national chain) only charges about 1.25 hrs labor."
I'm a little paranoid to bring it to somebody who isn't Saab saavy -- even if they do charge less. It's reassuring to know that if anything else suspicious happens while they are in there they would know it.--->
I understand about the cold a little (in ATL :)), but moreso about not having a garage!
The alternator R/R is a pretty straight forward endevor for any make, so if someone is going to charge 1.25 hrs of labor IMHO that sounds like a deal. I've contemplated the alternator placement, while under the car for an oil change, and it does not look pretty. Still, I would probably try, but I am not in NY in the winter...
Bottom line, it is your call but an alternator R/R is something that I would not have reservations about someone like Tires Plus doing.
Best regards,
