One of the things about this board is that you tend to only hear from the owners of cars that are problem children. No one ever posts that they aren't having any problems. Not every car necessarily has the "known" problems like DIC's etc. I have a '98 900 SE with 130,000 that I've had for a little over a year and it is by far the most trouble free Saab I've ever had. I think you're worrying too much, every car has problems, including the Japaese cars. Some of it's luck of the draw, some of it boils down to how honest/competent your mechanic is, and how you drive and maintain it. Buy the newest, lowest mile 900/9-3 you can afford and hope for the best.
