When I had it out with AIG about 10 years ago my first strategy was to string them out as long as possible. They want to settle sooner than later.
I would also ask them what they are basing their figures on. You want to know if it is NADA, Kelley's or what. I think Kelley's is $1,000 over reality but it gives you a start for value. I think C'slist is the best source and you can look in your area and across the country to get an average. If their average is based someplace where Saab's are cheaper than you want to know that.
If you finally get into the heat of it, and you will get to a point where they will, when you get to a standstill kick it up a notch and ask for their supervisor. Again, string them out, have your proof and stand your ground.
I believe you can threaten small claims court and it might be an avenue to explore. If you have the proof of value in writing, from ads to your own paperwork, you should have a strong case.
If their is any medical injuries involved, or "could" be, tell the ins. co. that you want to wait until you see a doctor. That really gets their attention. Especially a chiropractor.
Good luck. Do your research. Ask for their info and stand your ground.
