Hi Mike, why dubious of receipts & upgrades? The insurance company asked for the receipts to "verify" that the car had actually been maintained to the level I'm claiming. As for major repairs & upgrades, my desire is to get another Saab with an equal level of "investment" as the one we lost.

To use your engine analogy, let's say Saab engines are known to fail at the point where we lost our car. We just dropped in a new engine 6 mos earlier since we planned on keeping the car another 10 yrs. Now we're looking at a replacement Saab with similar time/miles, only a new engine hasn't been installed. I would expect (from historical data) to have to replace the replacement car's engine very soon, thereby costing me an additional $5k. If the same vehicle was for sale on a dealer lot with "New Engine!" on the tag, you darn well know the price is going to reflect that new engine!

The accident was completely the fault of the other driver, who is out nothing. (The case isn't closed yet, so I don't want to say a whole lot more right now.) We want the same make/model car that we lost in the accident. My argument is that I shouldn't have to be put into debt to get the same level of features that were taken away from me.
