I purchased a 1995 900s in January with 18 months left on the warranty. It was for something like extended powertrain with some electrical stuff covered (mainly the convertible top). The car need a balance shaft chain repair (which I knew about before the purchase) that was discovered through the dealer that had sold the car and warranty to the previous owner. I thought that the b/s chain repair (and that of the transmission range switch) would be covered no problem. Boy was I wrong! The warranty company and dealer started disagreeing over what was wrong with the car (turned out the dealer was right). The warranty company wanted the dealer to teardown the engine to prove that the b/s chain was faulty, at a cost of $800 to me ($80 per hour for 10 hours). After I talked to the warranty company about why I was at risk for this kind of money, and they started talking about prior maintenance (I had the records) and if the car had ever been overheated (no signs of it). It was obvious to me that they were trying everything possible to weasel out of the cost (something like $3500). I ran. I got my car from the dealer (they hadn't started anything), cancelled the warranty and am in the process of doing the repair myself. I'm way happier with this solution (but I work on cars to relax and center myself!). Morale of the story is that if you're willing to take on maintenance and repairs yourself, these cars are an awesome value. If you take your car to and indie and do good solid maintenance you'll be okay. If you rely on the dealer you'll take a bath. Warranties may help or may not. I thought that the warranty company and the dealer (that sold the warranty) would work together to solve my problem. No way. Just my experience.
Chris.
ps - I also have a 9000 that is bulletproof. 900s are a little more dependent on good maintenance.
