most people are well intentioned when it comes to maintenance, but...I am one of these sickos that finds a good car, gets it checked out by my trusted indie, repairs/ replaces things BEFORE they break (preventive or predictive maintenance) usually myself, but if I dont have time or dont feel like doing it, I take it to my trusted indie (he needs to eat too and I need to support his business).
My costs of Saab ownwership have been low (5 to date), as I buy my parts on the net, not from the dealer (nearest one is 100 miles away), use an indie instead of a dealer for service, and am personally involved in maintenance and well being of my car. We have realistic expectations on how long our cars will last. I spend less than 50.00 a month because I plan ahead and take care of potential problems before they ARE problems. An extended warranty is lost on people like us.
