at 42,000 miles and my inclination was to try the cheap, easy stuff first. Enough folks here had problems with the '94 shifter bushing and the upgraded shifter sounded like a better more long term fix. I also replaced the clutch cable because I did not like the engagement point (very near floor). Total cost of 300.00 at dealer in Columbia, SC. Saab even paid for the upgraded shifter kit parts, so I was reimbursed around 200.00. I now have 120,000 miles on the car and years later, still am on my original clutch and original transmission, with the only expense being a steady diet of clutch cables. Car still shifts as good as it ever has (well, good for a Saab anyway).
Damn car leaks oil like a sieve though and I keep telling myself that one day I will get that rear seal replaced when I get a new clutch but it just refuses to wear out. I fear that if I pop for the 800.00 my indie wants to replace the clutch and a multitude of leaky seals, sure enough my trans will fail shortly thereafter and I will have sunk $ into a black hole. So I will go for the clutch endurance record.
