Tahoe Snowboarding Advice Needed

Some friends and I are considering our annual snowboarding trip and I figured I'd see here if anyone has some useful info. We normally stay in SLC, UT and then drive to the snow each day as SLC is close to many nice slopes. We are ready to try a new place but don't really know that much about Tahoe.
I'm intermediate, they're fairly expert so we would want to be near resorts that offer a variety of terrain. We would likely be there for a week so most boarding would be done during the week rather than weekends. We would want access to nice restaurants but will probably look for lodging other than staying at a resort unless that's the best option. Most web sites I've found are as much advertisement as honest critical advice so looking for someone familiar with the area. Oh, we would probably go any time from mid February to mid March but preferably before major Spring Breaks start.
I know there's a distinction between N. and S. Tahoe. Thanks for any tips or advice you folks can offer.
