Being an intermediate I've had 2/2 bad days at Snowbird. The first day was my second day on a snowboard ever and the fog was too thick to see more than 3' in front of your face - accidentally hit a couple of double blacks because the trail markers were virtually invisible and my skills, maneuverability were lacking. Last year we were there and there was about 15" of fresh powder, and that was my first time on fresh powder and it was cool but completely different than boarding on groomed or sort of icy pack. I should have headed for the steeps because the blues were just too slow for the amount of snow on the ground, but was too tentative. By the time I'd slogged through the blues before lunch my stamina was toast so I napped during the afternoon.

The guys I go with are hardcore. We'll be there Sat-Sat and boarding will occur 6 days in a row so by the end of the trip I'm ready to pack it up for the summer. That is of course until I've been back at work for a week and my muscles have recovered.

Since I exclusively snowboard my favorite place near SLC is Brighton, but then again that's where I've had my personal best runs and also took my first lesson, so I guess I'm biased. Solitude was also fun, but Powder Mountain is great after a big snow because it's not crowded at all and I'm familiar with the runs there. Last year was the first time I'd even sort of consider myself intermediate, and that was after about 3 days where I really felt good about how I did on the slopes, though I still tend to steer clear of blacks, and have a serious problem with moguls that I've got to work out next time I have fresh legs and the opportunity.

Man, talking about it makes me want to be there RIGHT NOW!! 8^)
